“Grand Hyatt Hotel” Dubai was the center stage for Qualcomm Seminar for Afghanistan and CIS countries on “3G CDMA Technologies”. The significance of the seminar was the attendance of a well represented delegation from Ministry of Communication, Afghanistan, which has an operational CDMA network by Afghan Telecom in Kabul and are expanding the system country wide. The seminar hosted by Qualcomm Inc. USA, the patent holder and developers of the CDMA Technology was assisted by Central Asian CDMA Forum.

Dr. Thomas O’Neill, vice president, Qualcomm gave the welcome address, followed by George Mansho of the CDMA Development Group. Speaking on the occasion George Mansho unveiled the evolution of CDMA and the milestones it covered to reach the 3G CDMA2000 level; complimented by a brief but thorough 3G market overview by Shahid Mahmud (CEO InterActive Communications).

Following are the telecom experts, who presented their papers in the seminar; Dr. Ismail Shah (IQRA University/Central Asian CDMA Forum), Mullaguru Naidu (Qualcomm, USA), Mohammad Raheel Kamal (Qualcomm, USA), Artem Orange (Dialog, Belarus/Pakistan), Thomas Erickson (CCF), Khalid Khan (Central Asian CDMA Forum), Khaled Rifai (Lucent), Stephane Ledreau, Ted Kim (Ubiquam), Zhou Lingling, Noel Kirkaldy (Motorola) and Lu Xingang of Huawei Technologies.

 

 

The two day seminar brought under the limelight, all the aspects of CDMA technology. From regulatory issues to WLL deployment, CDMA2000 technical overview to BREW technology application, end user equipment and technology vendor’s pivotal role to creation of CDMA Forums worldwide.

Hence, the seminar was an instant success, as it drew attention from the audience. Seminar ended on the positive note with all round applause and the hope for better adoption of CDMA technology worldwide and specifically inAfghanistan and the CIS, as it is called as the next generation communication technology.
