A seminar on “3G & beyond” was successfully conducted by the Central Asian CDMA Forum on May 24th , 2007 at the Hyatt Regency hotel Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The event was actively supported by QUALCOMM Incorporated and the CDMA Development Group (CDG). HUAWEI, FONEX and UBIQUAM were the main sponsors for the event.
The seminar was well attended by professionals associated with the telecom sector that included policy makers, regulators, businessmen, mobile and WLL operators, software companies and vendors from Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Russia and South Korea.
The main objectives of the seminar were focused on raising awareness about developments taking place in the wireless world, identifying the need for operators and regulators to address the country requirements and the market demand, as well as ensuring profitable business and appropriate regulatory guidelines to fulfill these requirements. The seminar was also intended to highlight the current regional and global status of 3G networks and the adoption trends for applications and services.
The presentations made by various national and international speakers and experts discussed the strengths of 3G technologies such as CDMA2000, 1xEV-DO, WCDMA/UMTS, HSDPA/ HSUPA and their future evolution towards UMB and LTE.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Akylbek Aidraliev Head of Department of Communication & Information from Ministry of Transport and Communication and high level executives from the National Agency of Communication, the regulator, threw light on 3G and other telecom developments in the Kyrgyz Republic. They provided detailed review of current situation on Kyrgyz telecom market and prospects of its future development. A panel discussion on feature requirements, availability, pricing and distribution models of 3G handsets and terminal devices for CIS operators between CCF, GHRC, IRT, QUALCOMM, Ubiquam, Huawei and FONEX took place at the end of the seminar.
The seminar was a great success providing an unprecedented opportunity to mobile and WLL operators, Government Ministry & regulatory officials, telecom and software development professional and other stakeholder from the CIS region to learn more about the new developments in the telecom sector as well as to meet with the presenters and industry experts in person
